Copland and Barber: Americana

Description:

One of the Hallmarks of American music is the establishment of a national identity in the mid-20th century, particularly in the works of Copland, Harris, Thomson, Blitzstein, and Barber. Through their desire to compose music accessible to a broadly based audience, these composers developed a style marked by folk influences with a new melodic and harmonic simplicity, and an appealing direct1ness. This program of songs by two of America's most celebrated composers. Aaron Copland and Samuel Barber, illustrates what has become known as the distinctive American style of music.
