The Warren E. Teixeira Faculty Chamber Music Concert:The Art of the Concerto

Description:

This program will celebrate the art of the concerto. Two early Mozart concertos will be performed with strings as well as Max Reger's transcription of J.S. Bach's Fourth Brandenburg Concerto.

These pieces are chamber works constructed on the original plan for a concerto; a dialogue between the soloist and the orchestra. With Bach this dialogue is between the soloistic ripenio group and the orchestral continuo. With Mozart the ripenio developed into the virtuoso soloist. The dialogue becomes more pronounced and heralds in a new period of music in which the soloist became the focus of attention.

For this program, Marc Peloquin and Roberto Hidalgo will serve both as soloists and conductors in the Mozart works. The Bach work is scored for piano four-hands and will be programmed between the two Mozart concertos.
