Faculty Focus: Alejandro Cote

Description:

This recital contains music showcasing the versatility of the classical guitar as a solo instrument. The pieces by Mertz and Regondi date from the mid-nineteenth century and bear much resemblance to the music of Schubert and Liszt. The remainder of the program features contrasting music of the twentieth century. The work by Italian composer/guitarist Carlo Domeniconi reflect his interest in folk idioms and has an improvisational quality. Also influenced by folk music are the works by Spanish composers Turina and Pujol. The sonata by Ginastera is more modern in its harmonic language and uses the guitar as a percussive instrument.
