My Island

Description:

My island is a concert performed by the Rafi Malkiel Quintet.

The theme of the concert will be counterpoint in jazz and latin music, both written and improvised. It will have many written parts, especially for the horns, and sections for improvisation played by more than one instrument at a time.

The new compositions include Mozambique (a fast groovy Cuban dance rhythm, that is hardly being used anymore).

The two new arrangements are Black and Tan Fantasy by Duke Ellington, and Los Tres Juanes by Gutierrez (a Cuban composer) where the trombone takes the singers' part, highlighting its vocal qualities.
