Pianist Barbara Podgurski has performed
as soloist and chamber musician in the U.S., Canada, Europe,
and Korea, including in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall,
Merkin Concert Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art; at the
Caramoor Center for the Arts; on Trinity Church's Concerts
at One series; and in Flushing Town Hall- as a founder and
director of the series "Piano and Friends". She's
collaborated with renowned artists such as cellists Paul
Tobias and Marcy Rosen, pianists Seymour Lipkin and Diane
Walsh, and flutist Harold Jones. She received her
Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and her Master of
Music in Piano Performance and Theory from the Mannes
College of Music, where she studied piano with Marin Canin,
Thomas Sauer, and Fiorella Canin and theory with Robert Cuckson
and Carl Schachter. She's pursuing her Doctor of Musical
Arts at the CUNY Graduate Center, where she studies with
Martin Canin.
As a winner of Artists International's Special Prize in the
chamber music category, Barbara performed her Weill Recital
Hall debut in 2002. Summer festivals she's attended
include the Banff Arts Festival and the Bowdoin Summer Music
Festival. She's been featured in numerous television
and radio broadcasts, including on WQXR's McGraw-Hill Young
Artists Showcase, WNYC's Soundcheck, and a live broadcast on
WQED, and has been a guest on WPLN Nashville's Live from Studio
C. Her appearances this season include chamber music
performances in New York and Pennsylvania, including several
duo recitals with Joey. Barbara serves on the Board
of Directors of Musica Reginae, a foundation devoted to bringing
music and the arts to concert spaces and schools in the boroughs
of New York, and she serves on the faculties of the Mannes
College of Music, Hunter College, and the Music Conservatory
of Westchester. When she's not busy performing and teaching,
Barbara likes to cook for her family. |
