Katie Scheele, oboe & english horn

A native of Foster, Rhode Island, Katie Scheele began studying the oboe at the age of 11. Since moving to New York City in 2003, Ms. Scheele has maintained an active freelance and teaching career. She has performed oboe and English horn with many area orchestras, such as the Long Island Philharmonic, Westchester Philharmonic, and Montclair Chamber Ensemble. Ms. Scheele has also performed at several of New York's premier concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, and Merkin Concert Hall, and has also presented solo recitals in Chicago, Boston, New York, and England.

An active chamber musician, Ms. Scheele plays in several woodwind ensembles, including L'Amore dela Musica. She enjoys playing and recording pop music with various ensembles, frequently appearing in downtown New York City concert venues. Ms. Scheele also teaches private oboe lessons and introduction to music courses for pre-school aged children.

Ms. Scheele holds a Bachelor of Music degree cum laude from Northwestern University and a Masters of Music degree from Boston University, where she was initiated into the Phi Kappa Lamda honor society. Her principal teachers include Ray Still, Robert Walters, Robert Sheena, and Barbara LaFitte. Ms. Scheele lives in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of Manhattan with her husband Jim.
