| Born and raised in New York City, bassist
Dave Hertzberg has performed throughout the United States
and as far away as Japan and Peru. After earning his
Bachelor's degree from Tufts University in 1998, Hertzberg
returned to New York, where he soon established himself as
an in-demand jazz bassist. In 2004, he earned his Masters
degree in jazz performance from Manhattan School of Music,
where his teachers included jazz greats Harvie S and Jay
Anderson, as well as classical bass veteran Homer Mensch. Hertzberg
has performed on both upright and electric bass in a wide
variety of settings. In addition to his extensive experience
performing jazz with such musicians as Seamus Blake, Donny
McCaslin, and Matt Wilson, Hertzberg has also been a part
of several Latin groups, including Pablo Mayor's Folklore
Urbano (Colombian jazz), Son Tabaneras (Cuban Son), Corinna
Bartra's Azu Band (Afro-Peruvian jazz), and the Nation Beat
Ensemble (Brazilian Maracatu). An active educator,
Hertzberg teaches music workshops in New York City public
schools through the non-profit group LEAP (Learning through
an Expanded Arts Program), and has served on the faculty
of the National Guitar Workshop's DayJams summer program. He
also teaches private bass and guitar lessons. |
