Molly Aronson

"It is my goal as a teacher to train well-rounded students who not only enjoy music making, but are cognizant of what goes into the learning process."

Cello faculty member Molly Aronson grew up in Amherst Massachusetts and is an active performer and teacher in New York City. As a performer she enjoys performing a variety of styles of music in various ensembles including chamber music, orchestral music, contemporary music and commercial music.

Molly's musical passion is chamber music. "I am a chamber music enthusiast! It is such fun to delve deeply into a work with just a few other musicians, each with the opportunity to have their own musical voice heard. It is as if each person is a soloist, supported by friends, and each with their own deemed role. In rehearsal, you not only get to know each other as musicians, but also as people, and l have been fortunate enough to have met my closest friends through chamber music!"

As a teacher Molly's approach is comprehensive and takes into account the various skills needed to become a fine player. "It is my goal as a teacher to train well-rounded students who not only enjoy music making, but are cognizant of what goes into the learning process. Students will develop a set of reliable tools to help solve problems that will arise. Through the assignment of scales, arpeggios, technical exercises, etudes, and solo work, students gain a progressive yet sound understanding of technique. Students will also learn basic music theory through their repertoire, as well as integral practice techniques on how to 'build' a piece in order to expedite the learning process."

In her free time Molly enjoys the visual arts, creating works in mixed media with collage, painting, and drawing.
