"I tap into that inner desire and curiosity to learn. In this pressured world where excellence quickly is expected, I am encouraging but not demanding."
A native New Yorker, born and raised in Brooklyn, Robin Binderman loved the piano the minute she saw, heard and touched it. As a young student Robin began to discover the joy of learning through music and piano. As a teacher, she continues to learn through her students, who range in age from 5 to adulthood. She is comfortable with students of all abilities and is experienced at working with students who have learning difficulties. Robin tries to “tap into that inner desire and curiosity to learn. In this pressured world where excellence quickly is expected, I am encouraging but not demanding. I’m very interested in the process of learning and I believe the privilege of a one to one relationship with the student enables me to help them understand and respect their own learning style and pace.”

Robin encourages her younger students to build their musical skills not only at the instrument but also through Dalcroze techniques such as improvisation and rhythmic games. She encourages adult students to be patient with themselves using rote and pattern pieces for coordination and quick results while also building long-term skills through recognizing intervals and ear training. A teacher at Bloomingdale for over 15 years, one of Robin’s favorite experiences at the school has been working with her adult student Estela Boggio who has “taught me the meaning of patience and how to be a better teacher.”
