Jeremy Conley, Assistant Director
Jeremy is drawn to "all types of music including classical,
jazz, rock, and world music. The most important thing
to me is the quality of the musicianship and the material. If
both are at a high-level, chances are it's going to be a
good album. He learns about recordings through friends'
recommendations or positive reviews. "I also like to browse
on the iTunes store or Amazon.
A composer and guitarist, it's not surprising that the albums
Jeremy's currently listening to are connected by their originality
and guitar playing. He would recommend the John Williams
and Buena Vista Social Club albums "to anyone, but I think
these particular Beatles and Bob Dylan albums will be most
appreciated by those who are already familiar with their
work. |

What's on Jeremy's iPod/cd player?
Artist: John Williams
Album : "Arpeggione" Sonata; Giuliani: Guitar Concerto
Why you like this particular artist/album: John Williams' fine playing
and the superb sound quality make this recording a standout. The Arpeggione
Sonata by Schubert was originally written for viola, but translates
beautifully to the classical guitar. The Giuliani Concerto is likewise
a pleasure to hear.
Favorite track(s) on the album: Arpeggione Sonata
Artist: The Beatles
Album: Love
Why you like this particular artist/album: This album is like a breath
of fresh air, since I'm familiar with all of the original Beatles' albums.
It draws from the vast source recordings of the band and mixes the material
in new and interesting ways. Just like the original albums, it is best
listened to straight through.
Favorite track(s) on the album: This album has unique transitions from
song to song. Also I love the increased string part on "Eleanor Rigby."
Artist: Buena Vista Social Club
Album: Buena Vista Social Club
Why you like this particular artist/album: While working at Atlantic
Records in 1997, I was lucky enough to hear this album prior to its official
release. I've loved it ever since. The musicianship is top-notch and
the music is immediately accessible. This is certainly one of the best
recordings released in the last ten years and deserves a place in everyone's
collection.
Favorite track(s) on the album: "¿Y Tú Qué Has
Hecho?" and "Chan
Chan"
Artist: Bob Dylan
Album: Modern Times
Why you like this particular artist/album: Bob Dylan could
have hung up his hat a long time ago. Instead, he's still at
it, writing some of his best material yet. The songs are long
and much of the musical material is repeated, but the end result
is a deeply moving and important album.
Favorite track(s) on the album: "The Levee's Gonna Break", "Spirit
on the Water", and "Thunder On the Mountain." |
