Pianist Katy Luo is rarely seen around the Upper West Side without her iPod.
She is constantly listening to music and has diverse taste with her music collection
ranging from Stevie Wonder to jazz to classical. Katy discovers new artists
through recommendations from friends and would recommend the selections below

Album: Songs in the Key of Life
Why Katy likes this particular artist/album: Recorded in
1976, this album has been cited as a "landmark recording." Stevie
Wonder won a Grammy award for Album of the Year for this
recording which was ranked number 56 on Rolling Stones'
500 Greatest Albums of All Time chart in 2003. As
to why Katy likes this album so much, as she says "it's Stevie
Wonder!"

Artist: Bill Evans Trio
Album: Waltz for Debbie
Why Katy likes this particular artist/album: The title track "Waltz
for Debbie" was written with Bill Evans' niece in mind. Recorded
in 1961, the album includes Bill Evans on piano, Scott LaFaro
on bass, and Paul Motian on drums. Of this album Katy
says "I rarely come across a disc I find I can listen to,
at any hour of the day. This is one of those."
Artist: Bill Withers
Album: Live At Carnegie Hall
Why Katy likes this particular artist/album: Recorded in
1973, just two years after Bill Withers released his first
album in 1971, this album features many of the artist's classics
including "Lean on Me" and "Ain't No Sunshine." On
his website Bill Withers says that performing in Carnegie
Hall "was one of the most exciting times of my life." Katy
enjoys this album because "it's live, and it has wonderful
songs."

Artists: Frank Sinatra and Tommy Dorsey
Album: The Essential Frank Sinatra with the Tommy Dorsey
Orchestra
Why Katy likes this particular artist/album: Recorded from
1940-42 this album features Frank Sinatra in fine voice accompanied
by the swinging sounds of Tommy Dorsey's band. As
Katy says "you cannot not like this album!"
