Juan Boscán Almogáver (1490-1542)

|
| Juan Boscán Almogáver
was a Catalan poet who wrote primarily in the Castilian tongue
(the form of Spanish most commonly spoken today) rather than
the Catalan dialect. One of Boscán's early skills was
translating Italian poetry into Spanish and he was no doubt
influenced by those works in his own writing. Many of Boscán's
poems and sonnets use hendecasyllable, a style originated in
Italy with the stress often placed on the tenth syllable of
a line. |
