What you will learn

The course would teach the basic operation of MuseScore (a free downloadable program) – how to create a score, set up multiple instruments, and enter notes. Students will also learn how to add in dynamics, slurs, articulations, accent marks, and other features. Exploration of proper notation – beaming and use of ties, conventions to make our music look as good and easy to read as possible. We will also cover the reasons computers are so good for editing music – copy and paste, instant transposition, and undo! Finally, we’d learn how to manage our playback so we can hear our creations with beautiful sounds!

Goals

Students would understand the goals of good music notation, and know how to start with their own with great, free software!

Confidence

Students will feel empowered to create their own music and arrangements, a skill they can translate to ensembles at BSM.

COMMUNITY BUILDING

Students will be able to participate in a larger community, sharing their own musical ideas with others, and understanding more about the music they study in lessons and how it's represented in the process.
