What you will learn

The music business surrounds each genre of music, be it musical theater, classical, rock, or jazz. Through this course, students will understand much of the “behind the scenes” of the music business and grasp many of the “secrets” of the industry. Our four main categories of focus will be: basics of music copyright and usage of songs on the internet; how record companies make their money in the streaming age; how music is recorded both large-scale and DIY; and the roles of music managers and agents.

Understand the correct processes for using both printed and recorded music.

Learn how to protect one's own compositions and songs.

Begin recording a song of their own using the DIY process.
