
Preschool Musical Mornings
Musical Mornings introduces the joys of music-making in a fun and educationally stimulating environment. This class is designed for preschool-aged children to explore and discover the joy of music. Through the use of songs, simple rhythmic patterns, movement, games, musical storytelling, and hands-on instrument, children will be introduced to the building blocks of music, as well as listen to a variety of great musical works. Children will explore instruments ranging from small percussion and drums to glockenspiels, ukuleles, and more!
Conducted in person at the School at Columbia, the daily schedule will run from 9 a.m. through 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, July 10 – August 4. Learn more about why this change is happening this summer here!

What you will learn
Through the use of songs, simple rhythmic patterns, movement, games, musical storytelling, and hands-on instrument playing, children will be introduced to the building blocks of music as well as listen to a variety of great musical works. Children will explore instruments ranging from small percussion and drums to glockenspiels, ukuleles and more!
Music literacy through games and activities
Children will play a number of games that help children recognize and write rhythms, recognize musical vocabulary, understand solfege, identify the lines and spaces on the G clef, and more!
Hands on instrument exploration
Children play many instruments during the course of the semester, including: barred percussion instruments, simple stringed instruments, small and large percussion, world music instruments and more!
Social interaction
Classes are designed for children to work with each other in a cooperative manner by playing in ensembles, improvising together, sharing and taking turns, which helps to create empathy and sense of community.
