April 23, 2021 7:00 pm

This program features music that was composed by the performers themselves. Vocalists Amber Evans and Rachel Querreveld will collaborate in a program of original songs whose theme is lifting women’s voices. Jazz pianist Michael Cochrane performs his own compositions with bass player Daryl Johns, including a piece that was written during the pandemic and meant to be a source of comfort during these difficult times.

Concert 1: Songs For A Better World

Amber Evans, voice and instruments
Rachel Querreveld, voice

Derivative works composed by Amber Evans and Rachel Querreveld

Amber and Rachel are excited to present a collection of melodies and poems written by female artists through the ages. They have carefully selected works on themes of female empowerment, independence, and strength, and reimagined these existing pieces into new musical forms. Featured composers and poets include Hildegard Von Bingen, Clara Schumann, Florence Price, Katharine Lee Bates, Felicia Dorothea Hemans, and more! This is sure to be a concert unlike any you’ve seen before!

Concert 2: Michael Cochrane Originals

Michael Cochrane, piano
Daryl Johns, bass

In the past, I have done quite a few concerts showcasing the music of many of the jazz greats. These were my influences. On this concert, I would like to present some of my compositions. The majority of the pieces for this concert have been previously recorded on the SteepleChase label which is a company in Denmark. The recorded pieces were done with a trio. There is also a big band arrangement of the Ballad. One of the compositions was composed during the pandemic. The style of the pieces is varied and represents some of my body of work as a composer. I hope that this music will be a source of comfort during these difficult times.
