It’s wonderful to watch and hear our halls fill up again with faculty and students of all ages taking classes and lessons, playing in ensembles, and performing in our concert series. As we head into a new year, we’re thrilled to be able to come together and share the experience of learning, playing, and appreciating music with our community.

PRIVATE LESSONS FOR ALL AGES

The one on one connection between a student and their private instructor is a unique shared experience. Bloomingdale offers in person and online lessons in nearly 20 instruments. Give it a try for only $30!

GROUP CLASSES FOR CHILDREN

Share the experience of learning an instrument or singing with peers. Group classes are available in several instruments as well as singing and are a great introduction to music education. Classes are organized by age group.

CLASSES FOR BABIES & TODDLERS

Share the music with your baby in a “Mommy and Me” class or enroll your child in a class where they will sing, play, and socialize with other toddlers.

BLOOMINGDALE ENSEMBLES

From orchestras to singing groups, jazz ensembles and flute choirs, there are many ways to share the music this spring at Bloomingdale. Experience the joy of making music together in a Bloomingdale ensemble.

GROUP CLASSES FOR ADULTS

Now’s the time to try something new or pick up that old instrument and get inspired. Classes and lessons are available for adults in multiple instruments, or you can share the appreciation of music with other adults in one of our lecture series.

At Bloomingdale, all students and families are welcome to be a part of a greater community. After lessons and classes, we invite you to join us for our free faculty concert series, instrument festivals, student recitals and for community events that bring faculty, students, staff and board members together over music, food, and fun. Students have opportunities to perform in concerts, recitals, festivals, and other programs at no additional cost to them. We look forward to welcoming all students and families to share the music at Bloomingdale this spring!

NEW! INTRO TO SINGING: ADULTS

Find your voice in a pressure free, fun and relaxed atmosphere in the company of other adults. With a focus on healthy singing techniques, this class will incorporate breathing techniques, proper enunciation and pronunciation, and ways to better utilize your voice.

NEW! RHYTHM WORKSHOP

Students will gain a worldview of rhythm, percussion, timing, and musical approaches coming from the drum perspective, but invaluable to all musicians. Following chronologically from the earliest west african, afro cuban, afro brazilian, into modern jazz, swing, and even exploring odd meter and metric modulation techniques.

NEW! PERCUSSION FOR CHILDREN

Students will gain a worldview of percussion, getting to experience not only a bevy of instruments and techniques like soloing, but also exploring world music concepts like clave and polyrhythmic approaches.

WE OFFER NEED-BASED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Our goal is to make music education accessible and to remove the financial barrier that may prevent students from participating. Therefore, we offer need-based financial aid to as many students as possible.

Deadline to apply for financial aid is January 15th, 2023. 

General financial aid is available for all classes and programs.

PRIVATE LESSONS FOR ALL AGES

Our 30, 45 and 60-minute music lessons give prospective students the opportunity to experience our community and the hands-on learning students enjoy. Lessons are taught by passionate and experienced faculty who customize lessons for each student. 30-minute Trial classes are $30.

Early Childhood Classes

Join our Early Childhood faculty for fun, interactive, and music-filled classes to engage the youngest learners throughout the Summer months. Offerings are available in person in our newly renovated recital hall, on a variety of days and times to suit every family’s scheduling needs and every child’s delight. Children from 3 months to 5 years old will learn musical concepts through hands-on percussive experiences, as well as song and dance.

Our beginner classes for children and teens provide an excellent introduction to our most popular instruments. The supportive group class settings allow students to work together, learn together, and help one another as they come across musical challenges together.

Ensembles for all ages

Students ages 8 and up can participate in performance-based classes with a wide variety of offerings for all instruments and ages, both in-person and online. Each of our ensembles provides students with invaluable group rehearsal and performance experience and creates an immersive environment that allows students of various ages and ability levels to connect, collaborate, and learn together!

Virtual Lecture Classes

Bloomingdale Resident Teaching Artist, Marc Peloquin, leads a series of 4-week music courses for adults designed to give students a basic understanding of music and inspire an appreciation for music through a variety of musical styles. Each class in this lecture series will feature live demonstrations of musical concepts, discussion, and recorded listening examples. These courses will give you tools and context to better appreciate the magical world of music.
