SUMMER VOYAGERS

Our Summer Voyagers will explore a broad range of musical ideas through sight, sound, and movement. Developed particularly for young students starting off on their musical journey, this program is an action-packed introduction to diverse musical concepts that will lay the groundwork for a variety of future study. For ages 6 – 10. 

GUITAR WORKSHOPS

Do you play guitar? Are you looking for something to fill the summer days while also brushing up your skills? Try one of our guitar workshops! These immersive programs offer guitar students the opportunity to participate in an intensive and performance-focused learning experience.

Summer Guitar Week (Ages 10-16) – July 17-21

MEET THE INSTRUMENTS: MINI CAMP

Bloomingdale’s Meet the Instruments program introduces students (ages 4-5) to instrument study, combining elemental music-making classes with age appropriate introductions to solo instruments. Children experience the violin, piano, and wind instruments and more in daily sessions led by faculty artists specializing in each instrument. Join us for an exciting week of musical exploration!

EARLY CHILDHOOD SUMMER CLASSES

Make this summer a musical adventure for your little ones! Join our early childhood classes for ages 1-5 and watch them delight in a world of rhythm, melody, and play. With interactive activities, engaging songs, and experienced instructors, their love for music will grow as they learn and have fun!

SUMMER GROUP CLASSES FOR ADULTS

Join our online adult group music classes for 18+ and explore a world of harmony, rhythm, and creativity. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned musician, our experienced instructors will guide you through an immersive and rewarding learning experience.

Summer in the City – Bloomingdale Resident Teaching Artist, Marc Peloquin, leads this four-week online lecture course designed to inspire a greater appreciation for music throughout a variety of musical styles.

Online Adult Jazz Ensemble -The jazz ensemble is a place where students can explore music in the jazz tradition, particularly bebop, post-bop, Latin, and Brazilian styles.  

SUMMER PRIVATE LESSONS

Bloomingdale offers high quality private lessons for students of ages and abilities.

Our private lessons are ideal for students looking for a thoroughly personalized and dynamic learning experience. Private one-on-one lessons are available in person as well as online.

All Summer Lesson Packages will include 4 lessons to be scheduled as you like. You may buy one or multiple packages at your convenience, so you can be flexible with your lessons or fill your summer with music!

At Bloomingdale, all students and families are welcome to be a part of a greater community. After lessons and classes, we invite you to join us for our free faculty concert series, instrument festivals, student recitals and for community events that bring faculty, students, staff and board members together over music, food, and fun. Students have opportunities to perform in concerts, recitals, festivals, and other programs at no additional cost to them. We look forward to welcoming all students and families to share the music at Bloomingdale this spring!

NEW! INTRO TO SINGING: ADULTS

Find your voice in a pressure free, fun and relaxed atmosphere in the company of other adults. With a focus on healthy singing techniques, this class will incorporate breathing techniques, proper enunciation and pronunciation, and ways to better utilize your voice.

NEW! RHYTHM WORKSHOP

Students will gain a worldview of rhythm, percussion, timing, and musical approaches coming from the drum perspective, but invaluable to all musicians. Following chronologically from the earliest west african, afro cuban, afro brazilian, into modern jazz, swing, and even exploring odd meter and metric modulation techniques.

NEW! PERCUSSION FOR CHILDREN

Students will gain a worldview of percussion, getting to experience not only a bevy of instruments and techniques like soloing, but also exploring world music concepts like clave and polyrhythmic approaches.

WE OFFER NEED-BASED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Our goal is to make music education accessible and to remove the financial barrier that may prevent students from participating. Therefore, we offer need-based financial aid to as many students as possible.

Deadline to apply for financial aid is June 15th, 2023. 

General financial aid is available for all classes and programs.

PRIVATE LESSONS FOR ALL AGES

Our 30, 45 and 60-minute music lessons give prospective students the opportunity to experience our community and the hands-on learning students enjoy. Lessons are taught by passionate and experienced faculty who customize lessons for each student. 30-minute Trial classes are $30.

Early Childhood Classes

Join our Early Childhood faculty for fun, interactive, and music-filled classes to engage the youngest learners throughout the Summer months. Offerings are available in person in our newly renovated recital hall, on a variety of days and times to suit every family’s scheduling needs and every child’s delight. Children from 3 months to 5 years old will learn musical concepts through hands-on percussive experiences, as well as song and dance.

Our beginner classes for children and teens provide an excellent introduction to our most popular instruments. The supportive group class settings allow students to work together, learn together, and help one another as they come across musical challenges together.

Ensembles for all ages

Virtual Lecture Classes

Bloomingdale Resident Teaching Artist, Marc Peloquin, leads a series of 4-week music courses for adults designed to give students a basic understanding of music and inspire an appreciation for music through a variety of musical styles. Each class in this lecture series will feature live demonstrations of musical concepts, discussion, and recorded listening examples. These courses will give you tools and context to better appreciate the magical world of music.
