Trombone faculty member Frank Cohen grew up in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and moved to New York City to study at The Manhattan School of Music. He began playing the trombone in the fifth grade. “My father played trombone in High School. I discovered his old trombone in my grandparents’ attic, took it home, and then took it with me to school and joined the school band.”
Frank enjoys performing various styles of music. “I love performing and creating with other artists and musicians in all settings. That spontaneous communication and interaction between one another on stage is a powerful language whether that is in Jazz, Classical, Afro Cuban, Hip-Hop or Funk.”
As a teacher, Frank treats each student as an individual and works on developing their unique musicality and technique. “I teach to the individual student, bringing out their own musical voice and creativity while at the same time emphasizing the fundamentals.”
When Frank is not teaching or performing he enjoys traveling and good food.
