Bloomingdale School of Music Names Rachel Black as Next Executive Director

Bloomingdale School of Music is delighted to announce that its Board of Directors has selected Rachel Black as the school’s next Executive Director. Her appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Bloomingdale as the organization continues its longstanding mission of making high-quality music education accessible to students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

Rachel is an accomplished arts leader with more than two decades of experience building innovative cultural programs in New York City. Most recently, she served as Director of Greenwich House Music School, where she deepened the organization’s community roots through partnerships with NYC public schools, older adult centers, and neighborhood organizations. She also launched Healing HeArts, a drama therapy program for young people, and co-founded Uncharted, a concert series and artist residency that has supported nearly 100 artists over the past decade.

“I am honored to join Bloomingdale School of Music, an institution that has made exceptional music education accessible to New Yorkers for generations,” said Rachel. “Throughout my career, I have seen firsthand how the arts can strengthen communities, foster belonging, and transform lives. I look forward to partnering with Bloomingdale’s faculty, staff, students, families, and supporters to build on the school’s extraordinary legacy and help shape its next chapter.”

Prior to her work at Greenwich House, Rachel was General Manager of Central Park SummerStage, where she oversaw major operational initiatives and helped expand partnerships for the city’s largest free performing arts festival. She holds an MFA from the American Conservatory Theater and began her career as a professional actor, with credits ranging from Broadway stages to major film and television productions.

“We are so happy that Rachel will be joining Bloomingdale School of Music as our Executive Director,” said Patrice Jean, President of Bloomingdale’s Board of Directors. “She is a dedicated leader and brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience in arts and music education. I’m excited to partner with her as we move forward into the next phase of fulfilling the school’s mission to provide access to quality music education to as many lives as we can.”

Rachel brings to Bloomingdale a meaningful blend of operational experience, community commitment, and deep love of the arts. Her leadership comes at an important moment as the school looks ahead to its next phase of growth, connection, and service.

For generations, Bloomingdale has helped students of all ages discover their potential through music. As the school begins this next chapter with Rachel Black, Bloomingdale looks forward to building on that legacy and continuing to be a place where students, families, faculty, artists, and neighbors come together through the power of music.
