Piano Discovery
Young musicians can take the next step into instrument playing with Piano Discovery! This piano class for preschoolers is designed for beginner piano students, providing an introduction to the study of the keyboard in a supportive and engaging group class setting led by resident faculty member Allie Altieri. Grown-ups are invited to join the first class for a fun introduction to “How to Be a Piano Partner.” No prior music knowledge is necessary!
*This class requires an adult “piano buddy” in attendance.

What You’ll Learn in Piano Discovery
Students build the foundations of piano playing through music reading, rhythm, singing, and group activities. Each child is accompanied by an adult “Piano Partner” who can help with page turning, reading, hand placement, and general support as students become more independent at the keyboard.
Foundations of Music
Students are introduced to fundamental musical skills including singing, note reading, rhythm, keyboard awareness, and basic piano technique.
Exciting Repertoire
Using selections from the Piano Pronto and Piano Adventures series, students learn accessible arrangements of folk, popular, and classical music while developing confidence at the piano.
Learning Together
Students learn alongside their peers, play for one another, and work through musical challenges together in an encouraging group environment.
This piano class for preschoolers provides a playful transition from early childhood music classes into more focused instrumental study. Piano Discovery meets in person at Bloomingdale School of Music on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

Our goal is to make music education accessible and to remove the financial barrier that may prevent students from participating. Therefore, we offer need-based financial aid to as many students as possible.
