Project Bridge gives motivated, music loving students an opportunity to grow on their instrument through private one on one lessons with a gifted teacher. Project Bridge offers a full tuition scholarship for weekly lessons to talented young musicians who would otherwise have difficulty affording them. This program supports students who participate in their middle or high school band, orchestra, or choir and helps them to grow into musical leaders in their school ensemble.
We accept applications from students across all schools in New York City. Past students have joined us from LaGuardia, Celia Cruz, Frank Sinatra, Hunter College, Bronx Science, Special Music School and Basis Independent high schools.
Ideal candidates should have at least one year of experience on an orchestral/band instrument or singing in school ensemble; they should be entering grades 7th-10th grade at the time of audition; must participate in school band, orchestra, or choir throughout the school year; they should be seeking to advance in their musical training on their chosen instrument; students who demonstrate financial need through completed financial aid form.
Project Bridge is a full tuition scholarship program. The program is free of charge except for a small registration fee of $25 per semester for all those accepted. The value of a Project Bridge scholarship is $3,264 for a full year per student.
Applications to audition for the fall are due on April 1st. Acceptance letters will be sent by June 1st. For more information, please contact Program Director, Kaoru Hinata at: khinata@bsmny.org
The 2024-2025 Project Bridge program is slated to be an in-person program with lessons and classes taking place at the school building. Interested candidates should fill out an online application form and submit it electronically with their tax form by April 15th.
