Summer Strings Intensive
The Summer Strings Intensive is an immersive program offering bowed strings students the opportunity to participate in a collaborative and performance-focused learning experience. This one-week intensive will be led by members of Bloomingdale’s string faculty, with appearances by special guests. Participants aged 8-18 with at least one year of prior experience of reading notated music on a bowed string instrument are welcome.
The week will be conducted in person at the Bloomingdale School of Music. The daily schedule will run from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 18-22, with additional evening faculty and student concerts with optional online streaming.

What you will learn
Participants will explore a broad range of techniques and repertoire alongside their peers through a daily regimen of interactive workshops, technique classes, string orchestra and chamber rehearsals, guided practice, private lessons, and master classes. The week will feature evening concerts by Bloomingdale faculty, and will culminate in a student concert open to all participants.
*All participants must have a minimum of one year of experience on their instrument.
STRING ORCHESTRA
All participants will rehearse and perform string orchestra music together with the full group.
CHAMBER MUSIC
Participants of similar levels of experience will perform in smaller chamber groups that will be actively coached by faculty.
MASTERCLASSES
Each participant will take part in an intensive masterclass with a member of the faculty, an invaluable experience that combines live instruction and coaching with the experience of performing in front of an audience.
INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS
Faculty will lead workshops exploring technique, performance practice and much more. Participants will participate in active discussion and experiment with the practical application of diverse musical concepts.
PRIVATE LESSONS
Every participant will receive a dedicated private lesson with a member of Bloomingdale’s string faculty.
