What you will learn
Participants will develop skills playing with other musicians and will perform at Bloomingdale’s yearly guitar festival and throughout each semester. Students should be able to read music and have had prior guitar lessons. An informal audition is required.
MAKING FRIENDS THROUGH MUSIC
Have you ever noticed when during a concert, two musicians smile at each other while playing a fast passage, or breathe at the same time during a slow and passionate piece? Working together with other musicians to produce a beautiful piece of music is an experience like no other!
ENSEMBLE playing
Making music with other musicians, we have to take into consideration not only our part but also to the other musician's parts as well. This means we have to be rhythmically accurate at all times, with an awareness of volume, projection, and dynamics, and that we have to share and articulate our ideas to make decisions together rather than by ourselves.
Performance
The Guitar Orchestra will be featured on the ensembles concert at the end of the session. Other performance opportunities will also include Guitar Festival, Performathon and sharing hours.
Auditions
Auditions for Guitar Orchestra will take place in the fall. Auditions must be scheduled with Jose Maldonado by email at jmaldonado@bsmny.org. Audition requirements are as follows:
1. Perform one piece that best shows your abilities as a guitarist
2. Sight-reading: Students will be ask to play a short sight-reading exercise
3. Performing on an acoustic nylon string guitar is highly encouraged
