What you will learn

Participants will learn how to improvise rhythms and perform common grooves (repeating patterns) with supported guidance, as we use ‘call and response’ to bounce rhythmic ideas off each other. We will also listen to and watch inspiring and fun examples of rhythmic artistry from around the world including Cuba, Brazil, New Orleans and much more.

Explore Instruments

Not only will we use a variety of hand drums, shakers, cowbells and anything you can hit with a drumstick, but we will also use body percussion, Boomwhackers and make our very own instruments from household items!

Basic Skills

Students will learn basic stick and hand drumming technique in order to play confidently on any percussion instrument they can find.

Styles and Genres

Students will be able to recognize different classic grooves from around the world and identify where they come from. Do you know your Salsa from your Samba? You will soon!
