Tianyu “Tina” Deng is a pianist whose work integrates performance, research, education, and curatorial practice. She embraces an interdisciplinary approach to music, creating experiences that invite audiences and students to engage with music as part of a broader artistic world.

As an educator, Tina has over a decade of experience working with students across a wide range of ages and levels. Her students have performed at prestigious venues including Hong Kong City Hall, Opera America, and Carnegie Hall. She has also served as a teaching assistant at Manhattan School of Music, where she taught group classes and private lessons to non-piano-major students. Tina is passionate about fostering curiosity, creativity, and confidence in young musicians. Working with each student is an opportunity for her to learn, reflect, and continually grow as an educator.

As a performer, Tina works across a diverse range of musical styles and practices. Her experience spans period instruments, contemporary music, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She has performed as a harpsichordist with ensembles such as the Guangzhou Gamut Baroque Ensemble, as well as in J. S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio under the baton of Helmuth Rilling at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Her contemporary practice includes commissioning and premiering new works by living composers, including Elliot Teo’s work for the Concours International de Piano d’Orléans. She is also a company pianist with New Chamber Ballet.

As a researcher, Tina has presented her work at national music conferences and at institutions including Roosevelt University and Western Washington University. Her research explores the connections between music, literature, and visual art, with a particular focus on the music of Luciano Berio and Pierre Boulez.

Tina holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Manhattan School of Music, where her mentors included Dr. Marc Silverman (piano), Dr. Heasook Rhee (collaborative piano), and Dr. Reiko Füting (thesis advisor).
