What you will learn

Each class in this lecture series will feature live demonstrations of musical concepts, discussion, and recorded listening examples. These courses will give you tools and context to better appreciate the magical world of music.

Classes meet weekly on Thursday evenings and each four-week section can be taken alone or in conjunction with the rest of the series.

GREAT PERFORMERS: GLENN GOULD | MARCH 2 - MARCH 23

This course will take an in-depth look at the life and artistry of one of the most enigmatic pianists of all time. Participants will listen to and discuss the composers Glenn Gould championed including J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Sibelius, Strauss, and Wagner.

Great Performers: Isaac Stern | MARCH 30 - APRIL 27

This course will explore the career and repertoire of one of the most important and influential American performers. We will discuss Isaac Stern’s impact on the musical world, the legacy he has left behind, and explore the great violin concertos and chamber music works he often performed.

Great Performers: Yo-Yo Ma | MAY 4 - MAY 25

Yo-Yo Ma has brought international attention to the cello both as a brilliant performer and as a tireless advocate for the commissioning of new works by living composers. His repertoire spans the ages and continents. We will discover the rich and diverse body of music he has so generously shared with the world.
