Oboist and Houston native Elizabeth Hebert has been passionate about music making and engaging the community since she began playing the oboe at age 12. As a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, she has performed a wide range of repertoire with a variety of musical organizations throughout Texas and Louisiana. Ms. Hebert’s commitment to music has manifested itself both in concert venues like Carnegie Hall and in doing outreach in hospitals and schools. Ms. Hebert was a founding member of the Houston Youth Symphony chamber music outreach program and was a proud participant of the organization throughout her four years of high school. In May of 2015, Elizabeth played Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto with soloist and concertmaster emeritus of the New York Philharmonic, Glenn Dicterow; a performance which Chris Johnson of Arts and Culture TX heralded Elizabeth’s playing as having “offered a highlight of the evening, with her thoughtfully phrased and expressive solos in the second movement.” Elizabeth was chosen as a winner of the 2016 Jan and Beattie Wood Concerto Competition at the Brevard Music Center where she made her solo premiere playing the first movement of the Mozart Oboe Concerto with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra. Passionate about music education, Ms. Hebert is a firm believer in the importance of quality instruction. As a private music educator, Ms. Hebert has taught dozens of oboe students and master classes in the Houston and Dallas areas. Elizabeth’s students have gone on to make region band, area, and all-state in the Texas Music Educator’s Association all-state audition process, as well as receiving acceptance to prestigious music schools like Baylor University, The University of Texas, and Vanderbilt University. Elizabeth holds a bachelor’s degree of instrumental music education from Baylor University, where she studied with Dr. Doris DeLoach, and a master’s degree at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University where she studied with Robert Atherholt. In addition to her musical endeavors, Elizabeth is passionate about America’s pastime, and currently works full time in Baseball Operations for Major League Baseball.
