San Francisco Bay Area native Ian Harris is a tenor based in New York.
Ian is a performer and music educator dedicated to fostering a lifelong love of music in students of all ages. With a background spanning voice (classical & musical theater), piano, brass instruments, and marching bands, Ian brings a well-rounded, creative approach to teaching voice.
Ian’s teaching philosophy is rooted in building a healthy and natural technical foundation while amplifying each student’s unique voice. He believes that music lessons should be as unique as the student, tailoring his instruction to fit the individual, their goals, interests, and learning styles. By cultivating a supportive, patient, and collaborative environment, Ian empowers his students to master technical fundamentals, build confidence, and discover the joy of genuine musical expression and storytelling.
Previously, Ian has performed as Remendado in Carmen: Opera in Concert with the Manhattan School of Music (MSM), Ferrando in Vienna Opera Festival’s production of Così fan tutte, the Hunter in Rusalka with MSM, Roméo and Tybalt in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette with the Utah Valley Opera Festival (UVOF), Fenton (cover) in The Merry Wives of Windsor by Otto Nicolai with Pocket Opera, the FBI Agent in MSM’s production of An American Dream, and Le Doyen de la Faculté in UVOF’s production of Cendrillon.
In addition to operatic roles, Ian has performed as a vocal soloist in Craig Hella Johnson’s Considering Matthew Shepard, Jack in Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods, and as Mal in the Addams Family. Ian has also performed internationally at Igreja Santa Catarina in Portugal while singing Mozart’s Coronation Mass as the tenor soloist.
Ian holds degrees from San José State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with an emphasis in performance, and Master’s degree in classical voice at The Manhattan School of Music.
