Welcome Letter from Bloomingdale’s Executive Director, Erika Atkins

Dear Bloomingdale Community,

Welcome to a new school year at Bloomingdale! September is here, and with it comes the excitement of classrooms filled with music and the return of our vibrant community after a slightly quieter summer. This year is particularly special as we celebrate an incredible milestone—our 60th anniversary. This milestone celebrates all of you who have contributed to our success over the years. We’ll have numerous events and activities where you can share your unique talents, so stay tuned for more details.

As we embark on this new chapter, I want to personally encourage all of you—students and families alike—to start a new chapter with us as well. What’s that ambitious piece you’ve been dying to play? Have you attended a faculty concert yet? Have you checked out joining one of our ensembles or group classes?

Speaking of ensemble and group classes—these programs are at the core of what we’re all about at Bloomingdale: Access, Diversity and Inclusivity, Community, Expression and Connection, and Musical Excellence. When you join one of these programs, you’re not just learning music—you’re becoming part of a supportive network where every member’s journey is valued and where you can connect with others who share your passion. These classes provide a welcoming space for students of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels, fostering meaningful relationships and offering the chance to develop confidence, skills, and artistry. We believe that music is for everyone, and through our commitment to financial aid, we provide access to these enriching experiences, ensuring a diverse and robust musical learning environment. As we celebrate our 60th year, I encourage you to join us in making music, building connections, and being part of something truly special.

Let’s make the most of this milestone year by coming together to create, learn, and grow as a community. I encourage everyone to explore these opportunities and to bring your unique talents and ideas to the table. Together, we can achieve something truly special.

Happy Music Making!

Erika
