Welcome Letter from Bloomingdale’s Executive Director, Erika Atkins

Welcome Letter from Bloomingdale’s Executive Director, Erika Atkins – Spring 2025 Semester

Dear BSM Community,

Welcome to the Spring 2025 semester at Bloomingdale School of Music! Music has a unique way of bringing people together, and that’s exactly what Bloomingdale has been about for nearly 60 years—a place where music is not only taught but deeply experienced as part of a welcoming, vibrant community. I am so glad to share this experience with you.

At Bloomingdale, music is about more than just learning an instrument—it’s about building a community where everyone feels welcome and inspired. Whether it’s a child discovering their first notes, a shared moment of joy in an early childhood class, or the deep connections formed through our school and community partnerships, music has the power to bring people together. No matter what’s happening in the world, our team in this brownstone remains committed to ensuring that music continues to be a source of connection, creativity, and belonging.

This spring, we are thrilled to continue celebrating 60 years of Bloomingdale. Since the beginning, our mission has been clear—to make music accessible to everyone, regardless of background or ability. From private lessons and ensembles to school and community partnerships, we are proud of the work we do to bring music into people’s lives. We’re especially excited to mark this anniversary at our benefit, Generations, on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the Lincoln Center Performing Arts Library—an evening dedicated to honoring the people and moments that have shaped Bloomingdale and reaffirming our commitment to this work for years to come. I hope you’ll join us in celebrating everything that makes this community so special.

Whether you’re attending a class, playing with an ensemble, or joining us at one of our many free community events, you are part of what makes Bloomingdale special. I hope to see you soon and share in the music that continues to bring us together.

Thank you for being part of the Bloomingdale family. Let’s keep growing, thriving, and sharing the joy of music for generations to come.

Erika

Executive Director, Bloomingdale School of Music
