Friday, December 13, 2013 at 7:30pm

The “Young People’s East-West Music Project” engages students of the Bloomingdale School of Music and the surrounding community in an unique encounter with Chinese music. Students of Western instruments from the Bloomngdale school will collaborate with young musicians on Chinese instruments from Music in China to perform traditional and contemporary Chinese music. Music From China’s Artistic Director Wang Guowei, a master musician on the erhu (2-string spiked fiddle), will arrange music of cross-cultural instrumentation and conduct this unique ensemble. A culminating concert is performed free for the public at Christ and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church near Lincoln Center. Through this participation in Chinese music, young players will experience the joy of musical collaboration as they learn about a non-Western music culture.

Selections to include:

“Joyous Spring”
“Dance of the Yao National Minority”
“Beautiful Jiangnan”
“Chinese Folk Songs Suite”
“Spring on the Yi River”
“The Sun Shines on Tashikurgen”
