Beethoven-Schubert-Chopin

Beethoven’s sense of concise and compact musical statement was clearly illustrated in the Piano Sonata Op. 78 – a work which he described himself as “now there’s a sonata!” Directness combined with broader ranges of sonority inspired shorter, power-packed works by Chopin and Schubert in music that defined the great era of romanticism.

Program:

  • Sonata in F-sharp Major, Op. 78 — Ludwig van Beethoven

  • Two Impromptus, Op. 90, D. 899 — Franz Schubert

  • Four Preludes, Op. 28 — Frédéric Chopin

  • Ballade No. 3 in A-flat Major, Op. 47 — Frédéric Chopin

Featuring:

Monica Verona, piano
