Remembering Lawrence Davis (1951-2013)

Lawrence Davis, Executive Director, 1951-2013

To the Bloomingdale School of Music Community,

We are deeply saddened to have to tell you that Lawrence Davis, Bloomingdale’s Executive Director for the last 22 years, died Thursday, November 7th, after a short illness.

Few of us need to be told of the tremendous impact Lawrence has had on the Bloomingdale community as a champion of access and performance. Thousands of children and adults benefitted from his determination to bring culture and performing arts into our world. Under Lawrence’s leadership, the school assembled a faculty second to none among community music schools in New York, a group that shares his vision of music as an integral part of our lives.

In the weeks ahead we shall have the opportunity to celebrate Lawrence’s life and work, and share our common experiences of his love, companionship, and professionalism. At the same time, we shall make plans to carry on his good work that has placed Bloomingdale at the forefront of music education in New York.

We offer our condolences to Lawrence’s family and friends, with the knowledge that his inspiration will continue to be felt for years to come.

Sincerely,
The Bloomingdale School of Music Board of Directors
