Erika Atkins

Erika Atkins is a dynamic arts administrator, educator, and performer with over two decades of experience in New York City and Washington, D.C. Her journey began with overcoming hearing loss and racial identity challenges through her growth as a young artist, fueling her passion for the field. She holds a B.A. in Music from George Mason University and an M.S. in Arts Administration from Drexel University.

 

As Executive Director of the Bloomingdale School of Music, Erika leads strategic initiatives that expand programming, enhance community engagement, and promote inclusivity. Under her leadership, Bloomingdale has launched programs like Early Childhood Music Therapy and expanded group class and ensemble offerings. Her work emphasizes access, equity, and sustainability.

 

In her previous roles, Erika worked at esteemed organizations such as The New Victory Theater, Levine Music, and Opening Act, where her work focused on broadening access to arts education. Her contributions have strengthened arts organizations’ capacity to engage diverse communities and expand access to education.

 

Erika currently serves as Treasurer on the boards of Inheritance Theater and Newport Film. She has also served on the boards of the NYC Arts in Education Roundtable and the American Alliance for Theater and Education and has contributed to grant panels for the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York State Council on the Arts.

 

Beyond her professional achievements, Erika is passionate about mentoring the next generation of arts leaders and creating opportunities for growth and connection within her community. Her lifelong dedication to using the arts as empowerment drives her advocacy for equity and inclusion, ensuring the arts remain accessible and impactful for future generations. Erika continues to perform whenever possible, staying connected to her artistic roots.
