"Music should be fun."
"Music should be fun," says Liz Crommett. A dedicated teacher, Liz has taught children ages five months through twelve years which gives her the ability to understand the various stages of a child's musical development. At Bloomingdale, Liz teaches a full array of early childhood classes, working with Bloomingdale's youngest students, newborns up to 4 year olds. In these classes, Liz works with students to feel and move to musical beats, identify rhythmic patterns, melodic contour, and gain a basic recognition of notation and dynamics. Most importantly, Liz ensures that her teaching style "encourages a joy and love of music."
Liz began singing at age 10 when she joined a children's choir. Today she performs frequently in recital throughout New York and has also appeared on Broadway in The Secret Garden and Cyrano The Musical. As a musician, Liz's tastes are varied: she favors both the music of Richard Strauss "for its complexity and lushness" and the works of musical theater lyricist and composer Stephen Sondheim.
Fluent in Spanish, Liz enjoys performing the works of Latin American classical composers since she believes "there is an amazing amount of untapped works waiting to be performed." Liz's hobbies are as diverse as her musical tastes and include biking, swimming and belly dancing.
