A Long Island native, Susan Friedlander began
studying flute at age nine. After attending college in Connecticut,
she returned to New York where she enjoys a full performance
and teaching career.
Susan teaches “Toddler's First Music Class”
and “Music and Movement” in
Bloomingdale’s Early Childhood program. In these classes
Susan works with students to encourage musical enjoyment, build
listening skills, and reinforce physical aspects of rhythm.
Susan uses singing, dancing, moving, and simple percussion instruments
to engage students in the learning process. She believes that
all students have ability. “How that ability is nurtured
determines how it will develop and blossom. Through reinforcing
even small steps with joy and love, much can be accomplished.”
Susan performs frequently with ensembles such as the Brooklyn
Philharmonic and the Downtown Chamber Players. As founder and
director of “Haydn Seek Concerts”, Susan has been
able to combine her performance experience with her knowledge
as an educator. These concerts are designed to be a shared musical
encounter for parents and their infants, toddlers or pre-schoolers.
Susan lives on the Upper West Side with her husband and children.
Aside from music making, she also enjoys swimming, laughing
and spending time with her family. |
